What you are actually being paid for

A subscription business cares about one number: how many people who start a trial still pay in month two. To find that out, they need trials started by real people with real payment methods. That is expensive to buy, which is why a trial offer pays several times what a plain install does.

You are being paid for the trial start. What happens afterwards is between you and the subscription — and that is exactly where the money can go the wrong way.

What they pay

Trial offers are usually the top of the app-offer range, commonly $1–$25 depending on the service and your country. Published figures from other platforms put general app and game tasks at $0.50–$10, with trials sitting above that because of the payment detail requirement.

The exact figure is on the card before you start. We do not publish an average, because the spread between a $2 streaming trial and a $25 financial-product trial makes an average meaningless.

The rules that keep it profitable

Four things, and they are not optional:

1. Set a reminder the moment you start. For the day before the trial ends, not the day of. Time zones and billing cut-offs are not on your side.
2. Cancel through the subscription list, in your phone’s account settings — Apple ID → Subscriptions, or Google Play → Payments and subscriptions. Not in the app.
3. Read whether cancelling early voids the reward. It is on the card. Some offers want the trial to run its term.
4. Do not start more trials than you can track. Three running at once with three different end dates is how people end up paying for two of them.

A trial you diary is one of the better-paying things on any reward platform. A trial you forget is a net loss, and the loss is bigger than the reward.

Why trials get reversed

More than any other offer type. The advertiser pays, then their own reconciliation runs: the card was declined, the subscription was refunded, the trial was flagged as a duplicate for that household. Any of those can claw the payment back weeks later.

That is not a reward platform being difficult. It is the reason a reward sits as pending and clears after a holding window instead of being withdrawable immediately. A platform that pays out trial offers instantly is either absorbing the reversals or is about to stop doing it.

Before you start one

• Start from the offer link. Signing up directly on the advertiser’s site pays you nothing, and there is usually no way to attach it afterwards.
• Use your real details. Trials are verified against the payment method, and a mismatch is a rejection.
• Turn off the VPN. Trial offers are among the most tightly geo-checked.
• Keep the confirmation email. If the reward does not credit, it is the evidence that settles it.

Is it worth it

For someone who keeps a calendar: yes, it is the best-paying category available without a deep game milestone. For someone who does not: genuinely no, and there is no shame in skipping it. Install and game offers pay less and cannot cost you anything.
